Rabesec is an oral medication used to treat conditions related to excess stomach acid. It belongs to a category of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which prevent the stomach from producing acid.
Rabesec addresses symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other issues associated with high stomach acid levels, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Additionally, it aids in the recovery of erosive esophagitis, which is damage to the esophagus resulting from stomach acid. Rabesec can also be administered alongside an antibiotic to help prevent gastric ulcers caused by an infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Use Rabesec exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not increase or decrease your dosage or extend the treatment duration beyond what has been advised. Adhere to the instructions on your prescription label.
Rabesec is typically prescribed for a period of 4 to 8 weeks. Should you require more time for healing, your doctor might suggest a second treatment course. When addressing an H. pylori infection, Rabesec might only be needed for 7 days. Follow your doctor's guidance. Take Rabesec with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. It can be taken with or without food.
Side effects may include: headache; upset stomach or diarrhea; insomnia or nervousness; or a rash or itching.
For the treatment of ulcerative or erosive GERD, the recommended dosage for adults is 20 mg daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If healing hasn't occurred after 8 weeks, another 8-week treatment may be considered. The maintenance dose is generally 20 mg per day.
For heartburn resulting from GERD, the suggested treatment is 20 mg daily for 4 weeks, with an additional 4 weeks if symptoms persist.
Ulcers are treated with 20 mg daily for 4 weeks.
In managing Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, adults typically start on a dose of 60 mg daily, with the dosage adjusted based on symptom improvement, ulcer healing, or how well the acid suppression is working. Some patients with Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome have received doses of up to 100 mg per day or 60 mg twice daily.
The treatment regimen for eradicating Helicobacter pylori includes Rabesec 20 mg, Clarithromycin 500 mg, and Amoxicillin 1000 mg, all taken twice daily (morning and evening) for a duration of 7 days.
The tablets should be swallowed whole and must not be crushed, split, or chewed. Rabesec can be taken with or without meals, as food has minimal effect on its absorption.
